Necropolis: The Dialogic Project

DJ Spooky orchestrates a sprawling collaborative meditation on urban decay and digital consciousness across Knitting Factory Works, assembling Ben Neill’s cornet abstractions, Sub Dub’s dub mutations, and voices from Byzar and We™ into a fragmented, dialogue-driven soundscape. The dialogic structure—samples, field recordings, and fractured conversations layered over glitchy electronic frameworks—reflects Spooky’s archival approach to hip-hop and experimental electronic music. Necropolis treats the city as a palimpsest of voices and textures, neither fully ambient nor beat-driven, instead hovering in the liminal space between composition and collage.
