About

American folk and blues label, originally founded in 1965 as a partnership between and 's for the purpose of exposing recordings from Folkways' artist roster to a newer and wider audience; initial LP's were drawn from Folkways' catalogue and featured such artists as , , , , , and . Almost immediately upon its startup, though, the label began signing original artists who would be in the vanguard of what would come to be called the "folk-rock" movement, including , , , , , and . In June of 1967, by which time the original partnership with Folkways had ended, the label was officially renamed .
