South African label. Label Code: LC 3682 / LC 03682 . Gallo Record Company is the largest and oldest independent record label in South Africa and has been in operation since 1926. In 1985 Gallo acquired its long time competitor G.R.C. (Gramophone Record Company, 1939–85) to become Gallo-GRC from 1985 to 1990 before reverting to Gallo Record Company. Gallo opened the first recording studio in South Africa in 1932 and owns over 75% of all recordings ever made in South Africa. From 2006 to December 2013, Gallo operated as a joint venture with Warner Music known as Warner Music Gallo Africa. Previously known as a label as Gallotone and later as Gallo GRC circa 1986 (used for some extra years in Zimbabwe).
