About
Launched and run by former VP Records A&R David Sanguinetti in 1994, Break A Dawn Records was the first and only Hip-Hop label subsidiary for VP Records -- traditionally a Reggae and Dancehall label and distributor. Initially, it was intended to release material by Dancehall artists on music that fused Hip-Hop and Dancehall together (and also, partially to capitalize on the success of their first artist, Mad Lion, who did just that with his hits for Weeded-Nervous Records), but then it became a full-fledged underground Hip-Hop label after two releases. Although their potential was high, especially after releasing the debut single from the duo known as Ten Thieves, Break A Dawn was very scant in their output, and, in 1996, the label was no more.
