About

# The Grandmaster

A pioneering DJ and producer who fundamentally shaped hip-hop and electronic music production, The Grandmaster synthesized key turntablism techniques into a revolutionary sonic approach. Drawing from DJ Kool Herc's break-looping methodology and Grand Wizard Theodore's scratching innovations, he developed "cutting the break"—a technique that became foundational to hip-hop DJing. Performing at Bronx block parties in the mid-1970s, he established an influential crew that became the first hip-hop act inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Grandmaster's recorded output spans multiple eras, from early releases on Elektra to mix albums and studio work that showcased his evolving production aesthetic. His 2009 album "The Bridge: Concept Of A Culture" demonstrated his ability to synthesize diverse influences—hip-hop, funk, jazz, disco, and electronic elements—into a cohesive artistic vision. Beyond recordings, his weekly radio shows and DJ mixes have maintained his presence as an active force in electronic music culture, continuing to influence producers and DJs across generations.
