About

# Planet Hemp

Planet Hemp emerged from Rio de Janeiro in 1993 as a pioneering force in Brazilian rap rock, blending electronic production with hard-hitting hip-hop vocals and rock instrumentation. The group’s innovative fusion of genres and socially conscious lyricism helped establish a distinctive sound that resonated across Brazil’s underground music scene. Featuring vocalists Marcelo D2 and BNegão alongside guitarist Rafael Crespo, bassist Formigão, and drummer Bacalhau, Planet Hemp crafted a sonic template that influenced generations of Brazilian electronic and rap artists.

After disbanding in 2001, the collective reunited in 2012 to release *Jardineiros*, demonstrating their enduring creative chemistry and relevance. The album showcased their evolution while maintaining the group’s signature blend of electronic beats, rap delivery, and rock elements. Both Marcelo D2 and BNegão continued to expand their solo careers in parallel, further exploring electronic production and hip-hop innovation. Planet Hemp’s legacy lies in their role as electronic music pioneers who merged disparate genres into a cohesive, culturally significant sound that remains influential in contemporary Brazilian music production.
