Fred Frith Guitar Quartet

The Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, active between 1989 and 1999, was a vanguard in blending contemporary classical with experimental sounds, reshaping the landscape of instrumental music. Comprised of avant-garde luminaries Fred Frith, René Lussier, Nick Didkovsky, and Mark Stewart, the quartet carved a niche for themselves with their innovative approach to guitar music. They debuted with the album “Ayaya Moses” in 1996, a testament to their pioneering synthesis of genres, followed by the live album “Upbeat” in 1999, capturing the raw energy and intricate improvisations of their performances. Touring extensively in North America and Europe, including a memorable appearance at the 14th Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville, the quartet left an indelible mark on the experimental music scene.
