About

Electromagnets stand as a pivotal American jazz-fusion ensemble that emerged from Austin, Texas, in 1973. Known for their sophisticated blend of jazz, rock, and electronic elements, the group carved a unique niche within the electronic music sphere. Notably, the band provided a significant platform for the then-emerging guitar virtuoso, Eric Johnson, showcasing his early prowess alongside founding members Steve Barber (keyboards), Bill Maddox (drums), and Kyle Brock (bass).

During their brief yet impactful tenure, Electromagnets released a groundbreaking self-titled debut album in 1974 under their own label, captivating listeners with their innovative soundscapes and complex rhythms. Though the band disbanded in 1975, their legacy endured, leading to the posthumous release of a second album in 2005, which unearthed previously recorded sessions from 1975. Their music continues to influence a wide range of electronic and fusion artists, cementing their place in the annals of electronic music history.
