About

# Crime & the City Solution

Crime & the City Solution emerged from Australia's post-punk underground in the late 1970s under the creative direction of Simon Bonney. After an initial incarnation, Bonney relocated to London in 1983 and reconstituted the project in 1985, recruiting key members from the disbanded The Birthday Party. This reformation marked a significant shift toward darker, more experimental soundscapes that blended post-punk aesthetics with industrial and electronic textures.

Based in West Berlin throughout the late 1980s, the group released four influential albums—*Room of Lights* (1986), *Shine* (1988), *The Bride Ship* (1989), and *Paradise Discotheque* (1990)—establishing themselves as key figures in the European underground music scene. Their work synthesized angular guitars, atmospheric production, and avant-garde sensibilities, contributing to the broader post-punk and industrial music landscape. Following a 1991 hiatus, Bonney revived Crime & the City Solution in 2012, reuniting with Berlin-era collaborators and continuing to explore their distinctive blend of experimental rock and electronic composition.
