Windy & Carl are a minimalist electronic and ambient duo from Michigan, formed in 1993 around guitarist Carl Hultgren and bassist Windy Weber. Known for their distinctive approach to drone and ambient music, the group has been prolific since their inception, with a notable hiatus in the early 2000s. Their sound draws inspiration from 4AD Records' ethereal aesthetic, particularly the textural guitar work of Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie and the atmospheric qualities of dream pop and shoegazer movements.

What sets Windy & Carl apart in the ambient and drone landscape is their signature use of heavily processed guitar—employing delay, reverb, and E-Bow techniques—rather than relying on synthesizers.
