About

# Don Cornelio y la Zona

Buenos Aires post-punk pioneers, Don Cornelio y la Zona emerged from Argentina’s underground music scene in 1984, bringing a distinctive new wave energy to South America’s electronic music landscape. Their 1987 self-titled debut, produced by Andrés Calamaro, became a landmark release that blended unconventional instrumentation with post-punk sensibilities and new wave aesthetics. The album’s breakthrough single “Ella vendrá” secured significant airplay and established the group as innovators within the region’s electronic and alternative music sphere.

The band’s signature sound fused angular guitar work with synth-driven arrangements, creating a template that influenced Argentina’s electronic music scene throughout the late 1980s and beyond. Their approach to post-punk production and new wave experimentation positioned them as key figures in South America’s wave of electronic music innovation during the decade.
