Replikants, an experimental group emerging from the United States in 1995, showcases a unique fusion of electronic and space rock elements. Spearheaded by Unwound alumni Justin Trosper and Brandt Sandeno, the duo ventured into uncharted musical territories by integrating synths, samples, and a non-conventional approach to composition. Their sound, characterized by its trancy, space rock influences blended with a foundation of noise rock's lack of structure, marks a distinct departure from their previous work.
The band made their mark on the electronic music scene with their debut album, "This Is Our Message" in 1997, followed by "Slickaphonics" in 1999, both released on 5 Rue Christine. These albums encapsulate Replikants' innovative approach to music, combining keyboards, jazz elements, and reverb into a coherent yet formless auditory experience. Their work represents a bold exploration of sound, contributing a unique voice to the electronic and experimental music landscapes.
